creative pastimes. The severely quiet buildings fn their seting of beautifully tended lawn may have an almost grim appearance. And you appreciate the seriousness of their function when Jou go through the “security” process, inbound and outbound. But once inside and talking with some of the personnel who have been active in the art and hobby shows, you get new perspective. All personnel are engaged in work vital to defense. Perhaps for that very reason, they have a community sense not always found in civilian industry. Bradford B. DeMarcus, public information officer and head of employes services, explained it this way: “Their work is so important to the government they feel close to thes government, They feel they're .part of it. And so they like to manage their activities themselves. I'm just here to help.”

music groups. This year’s art show, which ran a week in April, had 50 entries. ‘Work included oils, water

colors, pastels, drawings, ce- |

ramics and sculpture.

“It had some really good |

drafting. Surprisingly, - however, the “hams” cop many of the art prizes. Harry Hull, secretary of the Art and Hobby Club, sald, “some of the best work, comes from untrained ama-

teurs, Maybe they're working | on a behch or an assembly line |

in the plant.”

And John B. Sullivan, one of |} the club's vice presidents, | added, “It’s easier to coax work | from the amateurs than from {ji
