TRACK BEAUTIES—Mrs. Ammanuel Fis (left), and Mrs. Danny Oakes.

By CHRISTY CASTANIAS ARE YOU bored with your life? If you crave excitement and have the urge to travel, try marrying a race driver. But

. before you take this step, in-

vestigate what will be in store for you. Mrs. Art Cross, Morristown, N. J., summed up what most of the women want from their husbands and what most of the drivers want out of life. Their ultimate goal isn't to be the very best driver. Réther, they want to be the very oldest one. If they can get glory along with this, naturally, it's all the better. » 2 8

BUT HOW do these, women feel when their men are actual1y behind the wheel racing with life? Every one of them, with husbands battling for top race honors, is typical of the Amer~ iean housewife who has darned socks, cooked good meals, cared for children and kept quiet when it was wise. What's more, each wife plays a vital role in her husband's career according to her behavior and reaction to his dangerous vocation.

For Mrs. Jimmy Jackson, racing is ‘an old story. A native of Desert Hot Springs, Cal, Mrs. Jackson has been living the. life of a driver's wife for the past 14 years. She is one of the few women who is race-seasoned, having had to fight her objec-~ tions to hubby's career all these years. 2 “ ”

WHEN SHE married Jim, who was racing at the time, she thought his speedy life was too dangerous. And after 14 years of what should have tempered her nerves, she still disapproves of his work. However, she is a little more used

to it now. The Jacksons have

a 12-year-old son, Jimmy Jr, which could account for the Jdriver’s wife's desire for more security. In complete discord with Mrs. Jackson's thoughts is Mrs. Emmanuel Ayulo who has been married three years. A striking strawberry blond, Charlene

Linden and son, Jimmy, greet

suitcase part of life. Traveling may be exciting but with a 4-vear-old son, it gets rather tiresome. But, all in all, she’s happy about the whole thing. ~ n =

IT CAN be said that Mrs, Jack (Lois) McGrath, Glendale, Cal, is one of the few wives

who has true racing blood in her. The McGraths were married three years ago but Lois was a race fan way before that. Having had confidence in her husband’s skill before marriage, she never had to go.through any new adjustments, So before you decide to become a race driver's wife, equip yourself with confidence, else, make up your mind to live a carefree, speedy life.

Ayulo is a natively carefree person. To her, being married to a race driver is exciting. It means meeting new people constantly and traveling around the country. She met her husband in Burbank, Cal., when she was a senior in high school and saw her first race after they were married. As she explained: ‘Naturally, the first time I saw him on the track, I was scared. But now, I'm calm and confident.” The Ayulos have a 16-month-old daughter.

= = » PLATINUM BLOND and well-poised Mrs. Danny Oakes has faith in her husband's ability but does all the worrying for the other wives. It seems Elsie Oakes, who has

.or when she hears cars zooms

ing by her. It took time for vivacious Elsie to reach this confidence stage. When she first met Danny, she didn’t know he was a race driver and was disturbed when she found out. Before marrying him, she served one and a half years in the . returned to her Beverly Hills home and then decided to become Mrs. Oakes. “As long as Andy is happy, Tm happy too,” are Mrs. Linden’s words. Andy wasn't a driver when Mrs. Linden married him but she didn't object to his becoming one. She admitted getting tense every time her husband was on the track’ but this feeling is. mixed with joy because she knows that’s what he wants. { Her only objection seemed | to be the living-out-of-a-
