Born in Unign County, Ky., Acker played professional = ball in the Southwestern and Kitty Leagues. : He came to Lafayette In 1013 from Kansas City, Mo., to work | as a carpenter ‘and joined the| | Carpenters’ Local 215. He became active in union affairs there, serving as business representative of his local and as member of the Central Labor Union.

Mr. Acker served as third vice! president and second vice president of the state federation before being elected secretary-treas-| urer. After gaining the latter position! he moved to Indianapolis, resid-| ing at 607 E. 32d 8t, He returned | to Lafayette when he became 11, Besides his served a two-year term with the Indiana Department of Commerce | and Public Relations, In 1948 he| was appointed’ an advisory com-| mitteeman for the department. Mr, Acker was a member of St. Joan of Are Catholic Church, In-! dianapolis; the Metropolitan Or-| der of Police, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Navy Club in Lafayette. Surviving are his wife, Loretta; two daughters, Miss Dorothy and Mrs. Valentine Korchert, both ot Lafayette, and six grandchildren. He also has four brothers and one sister living in.Nazaretlf, Tex. |
