By HUBBARD COBB There are, as we recall, three kinds of terraces in existence. Ene kind isn’t perfectly level but ft wasn't supposed to be ‘in the first place. Type two is supposed

to be level but it isn't and type ‘73 three is level and was: planned

that way. . Type one is the easiest te build. It’s just a’ matter of digging out some of the top soil and putting, down flat stone or 4-inch blocks of concrete; If you want you can dig the holes and then fill them with a mixture of one part cement, two parts sand and three parts gravel. Terrace type two is the most common one you run across and isn't too easy to construct. You start off by pouring four inches or so of concrete right’ over the ground. In time, the ground sinks or frost heaves the. concrete slab up and you get that roller coaster effect. It takes a lot of work to mix and pour that concrete and .one wonders why whoever did the job didn't put a little more effort into it and build type ‘three terrace. This terrace is made out of poured concrete and this in turn can be covered, ¥ you wish, with flagstone. The concrete slab is from three or four inches thick and rests on a base of cinders or gravel about 12 inches deep well packed into place. As the concrete slab rests on a solid and well drained base there is little chance of this terrace cracking or sinking. :

Sweating Flush Tanks

Not so long ago if you had a flush tank that sweated during the warm weather you got sympathy and precious little else. Well, things are different today! and not only is there a way to stop this annoyance but you've got a choice of methods. Method No. 1-48 to let the tank sweat all it wants but catch the water and let it run into the bowl where it won't do any harm. This|

is all accomplished by means of | Jom a little metal pan that fits under| @

the tank and is connected to the! bowl with a little hose.

\ |

_ Method No. 2 says if you oop i i

the temperature of the water in the tank high enough condensation: cannot occur and therefore there won't be any sweating. This is very true and the way it's done is to bring a hot water line into the tank and put a valve in the line so the water in the tank

. is around 70 degrees. |

Method No. 3 feels that if you

can insulate the cold tank from} Af

the warm moist air you can prevent sweating and a truer word has not been spoken. How to insulate the tank was quite a problem until someone dreamed up a little cloth covering similar to the one over toilet seat covers. So that gives you three good ways to keep the sides of the tank nice and dry. If; you're bothered with a sweating flush tank this summer you have only yourself and the tank to blame,
