IU Student Wins $25,000 Award
Times State Service BLOOMINGTON, May 10—Lik lian Miskavich, Worcester, Mass., séphomore in Indiana University School of Music, has been named winner of the Minna - Kaufman Ruud Foundation award for special voice training. Valued at approximately $25, 000, the award is the largest ever received by an IU student. The foundation was created by Edward Rudd, successful dealer in gas water heaters. The 19-year-old singer came to IU in the fall of 1950 on a full Kiwani& Aid-to-Youth. scholarship. She is studying with Anna Kaskas, associate professor of music and former Metropolitan Opera singer. The Ruud award provides for New York living expenses, tuition in voide and piano, an allowance and a weekly ticket to the Metropolitan performances. It includes also future training in dancing, ballet, stage deportment, coaching in opera and concert technique and languages. Miss Miskavich will receive training in the Metropolitan school, study in Europe and has the assurance of an operatic stage debut. She will finish this semester's work at IU, leaving next month
