Travis Took He Wanted

By. Kathleen WILLIAM TRAVIS is the man who made the little Anderson radio station, WCBC, take a sizable chunk of listening-audience away from the “big boys” and spread to a multiple-city operation—all in two years.

In radio circles and elsewhere, Mr. Travis has made a name for himself and ghe station for which he is general manager. Mr, Travis. came to Indiana from’ New York and St. Louis with a background of more than 168 yedrs in’ all phases of radio broadcasting. He found WCBC severely. handicapped by a ‘“nobeer, no ~ tobaco” advertising policy. The policy remains, but Mr. Travis built a solid- founda- | tion for the station through service and programming to appeal to the masses. The general manager likes the odds high. » » . Sufday’s ‘radio-TV section will earry the public's answer to whether crime shows on TV influence the criminal element. The prize-winning letter in this week’s contest will be published, as well as excerpts from other entries of interest.

“ALL AROUND the Town,” clever interview program broadcast. from points of interest in New York City, premieres at 8 tonight on Channel 6. Cosstarring the popular Mike Wallace and Buff Cobb, the show will rove from the Statue of Liberty to Times Square, presenting interesting people and little-known facts .about the world's largest city. “Mike and Buff” also is seen daily at 1:45 p.m, on Channel 6. »”

” . FOR THRILLS and chills— in a very realistic manner—turn your TV dial to Channel 6 at 10 tonight. This marks the first program titled “Speed Classics” —which replaces the roller dérby. “Classics” presents films of some of the most outstanding stock car, big car and motorcycle races held last year. in First film - shown tonight — will be the 100-Mile National Championship Modified stock car. race at Langhorne, Pa, last year.

6 Mr. Champion | Champion nastily. “Why I had 15 points,” reJiise Mrs. Rhule in a surprised one.

MR. CHAMPION was unimpressed. “I am more interested,” he said, coldly, “in how many tricks you won,” Not a

opening bid all right, but you had a lousy over-call when they had shown strength and I had shown nothing.” The result seemed to bear out Mr. Champion's criticism.
