R. MUzZzZY ‘often makes what he calls “gambling” bids. Usually these are not gambles at all. They are sure "things. ‘That is, the opponents ! are sure to get all the points. These bids consist of blind stabs at game or slam contracts, completely unjustified by the cards actually held. When Mr. Muzzy incurs the ire of his partner after one of these “gambles” has been doubled and set eight hundred, his standard remark is, “Well, you've got to take a gamble now and then in this game.” The inference is that if you don’t go along with his bidding insanity you are lacking in sporting blood. If you ¢ played with Mr. Muzzy as a ; partper all the ‘time, then, you + would have only two choices. You could be a coward—or you could be a pauper. = n » ONE of the comforting things about playing with a fine partger is that you don’t have to push the bidding for fear of missing your maximum contract. In today’s deal Mr. Champion described his own hand as accurately as possible, knowing that the final decision between a small or a grand slam would be made correctly by his partner, Mr. Masters. Mr. Champion's bidding was as strong as it could be, short of bidding the grand slam himself. Corlen Hoglund of Oakland, Cal., Has an idea which many of you will want to try. Dad too will get a "big kick" out of working the triek with you. I have used a one and a five dollar bill in the above Mustrations to demonstrate the trick. Lay a dollar on a piece of paper and draw around it, leaving a center strip three inches long attached. (Fig. 1.) Repeat by drawing around the bill again, only leave two attached strips three inches long. these two pieces together, (Fig. 2) bending the ends of the | strips over on the back and pasting the tips to the back. “Turn the trick back over and slip two bills or pretty ‘pictures under the strips, (Fig. 3) then close it, folding the, bills inside as in the fourth drawing. When you open the| opposite side of the folder you will see that the bills or pictures seem to have changed positions. isn't it?
