But She Picks a
DULUTH, Minn., Apr. 26 (UP)~Evelyn Paro walked slowly toward the window, looked out into the yard and watched her two small sons playing in the bright sun. It was a beautiful day, not a cloud in sight, Except one. “Mrs. Paro, 44, knows she is dying of cancer, She has lived past the time doctors had given her. A stomach operation last Mar. 5 led to the diagnosis. “I know I'm going to. die soon,” she said, “and I'm not afraid. The only thing that bothers me is leaving those two boys behind. What will happen to them?" In a sense, Mrs. Paro has answered that her self, She disclosed that she already has chosen her children’s future fostep parents from the many couples who have said they would like to adapt the youngsters. Poo » SHE SAID she talked last night to the couple, 4nd decided that they would be the “right parents.” But she has not yet told the future parents of her decision, and cannot disclose their names until she does. “They're wonderful people,” she said, “and I khow they'll be happy when I tell them I will leave my boys in their care.” Mrs, Paro has interviewed numerous couples in recent weeks who wanted to adopt the younggters. “All of them were nice and it was hard to decide,” she said. “It was the biggest decision I've ever had to make and I thought it over long hours during the night. But now that I've decided, I'm glad.” A reporter asked if it were possible that her

The older boy, Gordon, 9, “knows and understands,” she said, “Gerald cries when we ask him who he'd like for his next mother,” Mrs. Paro said. “He says, ‘I want my own mommy,” and then he cries.” The family now is living with Mrs, Paro’s sister. The dying mother’s room is filled with thousands of letters from persons who have heard of her !mpending death, Each letter is opened by Mrs. Paro, and she | answers each one.
