Starting time was to be 1 p. m,, at Jordan Field. Beveral hundred turtles — live ones-—from the university biological gardens, were entered in the race. Their sponsors, including townspeople, painted names on the turtles’ backs. There was more to the race than hilarity, It was a fund-rals-ing campaign to send undervileged Bloomington boys to Scout Camp, Wapahani, near here for a week's outing this summer, Sponsors paid $5 for each turtle entered, the total to be turned to the camp fund.
