Unvivel and Refreshing—

Club Concert Wins Acclaim

By HENRY BUTLER Times Special Writer

GREENFIELD, Apr. 21—Last night's concert here by Margaret Buehler White, harpist, the Berkshire Quartet and assisting artists was a triumph for the Le Blazer Studio Club. A crowd of listeners nearly) filled Bradley ‘Methodist Church t&lent. for a program of unusual and! refreshing music,

University's pride and joy, opened Indiana concert circuit. the concert with a Haydn quartet. Urico Rosst and Albert Lazan, violins; David Dawson, viola, 4nd Fritz Magg, cello, need no introduction to Indianapolis! music-lovers, They should be heard more often and closer to U, 8; 40 than Bloomington is, since théy measuse up awfully well to the outfits imported to Indianapolis by the! Ensemble Music Society, : Mrs. White, in a group of harp| solos, did some beautifully sensi-| : tive and nice-toned playing. = tay In last night's program, Mr. Lazan got a break the second violinist of a quartet seldom gets. He was soloist with Mrs. White in the Saint-Saens Fantaisie for Vioin and Harp. I had never heard the piece before. Barring SaintSaens’ habitual longwindedness, the Fantaisie has some really juicy moments for fiddle. Mr. Lazan, in his quiet but authoritative and sympathetic way, made the most of those moments. After intermission, another novelty was the KElegiac Trio of Arnold Bax, for flute, viola and harp. Edward McGough, flutist of the IU music faculty, was the anchor man in this deal. He has| good tone, especially in the husky | lower register of the flute. The Bax . composition, which might have been startling about 25 years ‘ago, now has a kind of| reminiscent charm. Styles change. | Biggest deal of all was Ravel's| Introauction and Allegro for harp, string quartet, flute and clarinet. This three-alarm job called Henry Gulick, IU music faculty clarinetist, in to help Mrs. White, the
