Jet Bomber Rides ‘Like a Cadillac’
By United Press FT. WORTH, Tex. Apr. 19— The most spectacular new air-craft-—the ultra-secret all-jet YB60 global bomber -- was pronounced a success today after a maiden flight which only “modestly” tested its capabilities, “It rides like a Cadillac,” sald one of its pilots, Only top Air Force and Consolidated Vultee Aircraft officials were allowed to observe the YB-60 streak off the runway and land again at Carswell Air Force Base after 1 hour ahd 6 minutes in the air. The needle-nosed, secretly-built craft is almost triangular-shaped with swept-back wings, almost as big as a giant B-36. Its eight jet engines trail plumes of vapor and there's a shrill, whining overtone to the deep roar of the engines. But “the YB-60 rode like a Cadillac, with no noise like a B-36 ~-Nno prop noise or vibration,” said the test copilot, Arthur 8. Witchell Jr, when he, the pilot and six crewmembers stepped from the new giant after the test flight
