WASHINGTON, Apr. 17 Eleven planes, sold as surplus by the War Assets Administra tion for $192,000, have been purchased by Uncle Sam for $1.1 million because of the “urgent needs” of the Mutual Defense Assistance Program. Pioneer Airlines, Inc, of Dallas Tex. which sold the planes back to. fhe government, will make more than $718,000 after taxes on the transaction, its president, Robert J. Smith, said today. Mr. Smith was a brigadier gen eral in the Air Transport Comraend during World War 11. He is r vice chairman and right ean of W. Btuart 8ymington on the National Security Re Board. He resigned from the NSRB in March, 1051.
