Marion Ladewig Comes to Town Tomorrow —
One of the year’s most versatile gatherings of sports personalities will highlight the Captain-Sponsors bowling
row night. ia
The annual event for good kegling fellows, includes an appearance by Marion Ladewig, national women's match game chamspion, Miss Ladewig Is ‘to bowling what Babe Didriksen Zaharias is to golf and currently has no peer in the feminine ranks. Marion, who posted a 211 average for the 32-game finals of the national meet in December, will address the group and maybe the women, and men too, can pick up a few hints on the attractive bowler’s success. Miss Ladewig will soon he named Woman Bowler of the Year for the third straight time. She is now serving on the Brunswick-Balke-Collen-
der advisory staff, » - »

JOHN HUTCHINGS, the Indianapolis Indians’ personal
Clown Prince of baseball, has just returned from spring training at Daytona Beach and will be on hand to relate the progress of the '52 Indians and their potentialities for the hew season. Knowing Johnny, who has done pretty well on the bowling alleys himself, the “after dinner speech” might be anything from fine points of the diamond to a vocal takeoff of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” Tom Carnegie, sportscaster at WIRE, will serve as toastmaster. Mayor Alex Q(lark, a vivid fan in all fields of sports, has been invited along with Joe Sexson and Myron Garland of Tech’s state basketball finalists. Herm Schaefer, coach of the Indianapolis Olympians basketball team, was invited but had to decline because of previous commitments, There will be a lengthy prize list, including bowling merchandise and personal gifts. The big feature will be the selection of the sponsor of the year.
Resume ABC's Apr. 17
THERE are no Indianapolis teams competing in the American Bowling Congress at Milwaukee until Apr. 17. Tompkins Ice Cream will start it off on that date. The tempo will increase on Apr. 18 when 10 teams swing into action. : The group will include Delaware Bowling Center, Herrmann Funeral Home, Ace Bowling Ball, Herfl-Jones, Bowes Seal Fast, Advance Electrotype, Morgans Restaurant, Marott Shoes and teams from the Indianapolis league. Indiana Fur will roll on Apr. 20.
Mixed Doubles Lag MURIEL HAYES, who served as secretary of the mixed doubles tourney at Pennsylvania last week, said the support of such events has weakened in recent weeks. She allowed the possibility of the state tourney and the TenPin Classic at Indiana as a detraction but contended the doubles show cannot continue unless more enthusiasm is shown. There were only 58 entries in last week’s meet. Rosemary Smith and Wyatt May teamed to take first prize on 1126-163—-1289. Low to cash was 1240, The tourney was sponsored by the Indianapolis Bowling Proprietors Association.
Youngest Champ WHEN Georgette Hartman, 17, of Homewood, Ill, won the all-events title in the Illinois Women’s . State Championship recently, she became the youngest champ in the history of the meet. Georgette, an attractive high school senior, posted 1762 actual for nine games. She is the daughter of Ruth Hartmann, who in 1940 and 1941. was a member of the WIBC champions from Homewood.
Schedules Conflict
Bageballers who bowl have their problems ironing out the 1952 schedule. The Indianapolis Amateur Baseball Association couldn't arrive at an opening date because several league
members argued it would con- |
flict with campaign. It seems the minority wanted May 10 as the opening date for city play. But this suggestion was voted down in favor of May 3. So now the bowlers who
like to spend summers chasing 1
line drives will have to make up their mind which it's going to be.

Doesn’t the local proprietor who told this scribe last week he was too busy to report a score know that scores ‘are his business. It's the best FREE advertising you can get.
Team Triplicate
THE ERIE FIVE in the | Women’s League at Hotel La Fontaine Alleys in Huntington, Ind., posted a triplicate of 614. The 200 scores among the girls included Eleanor Goble, 226; Elizabeth Septer, 238, and Mary Bauer, 223. Heralds broke a first place tie with Ingoldsby in the Allison Mixed League. Heralds now have a one-game edge on a 57-33 record while the latter carries 56-34.
Shun 9 P. M. Squad
A RELIABLE source tells us that in a mixed doubles tourney three weeks ago at West Side, a full squad was refused for the 9 p. m, shift on Sunday: It is sald Dick Nordholt's establishment told the group the squad was filled but it was later revealed there were plenty of openings available. This type of action doesn’t make sense, The local proprietors usually clamor for the mixed doubles directed by the women’s city association and sponsored by the IBPA. But if such treatment exists the little

Tourney Winners LIBBY FOGLE, secretary, of the All-Jewish city tourney, has completed checking the scores in. all divisions and has put the stamp of approval on the winners. Hoosier Construction from the B'nai Brith League at Broad Ripple won the team actual on 2489. Aaron-Ruben Five took home the handicap 2408 - 543 — 2951. Aaron-Ruben, which competes in the Beth-el League at Talbot Lanes, also won the sponsors trophy which was donated by Washington Chevrolet. L. Solomon and B. Mossler captured actual doubles on 1127 and tacked on a 156-pin
handicap to win the * 'e in that division. Joe Pozi r won the men’s singles on 636. It earned the handicap award

Libby Fogle won the actual all-events on 1387 and I. Barnett was the handicap’ queen with 1727. Prizes and awards will .be presented within the next two weeks,
New Pinsetters ? ? ?
THE GRAPEVINE has it that Pennsylvania Alleys will get modern treatment of the AMF automatic pinspotters in August. Johnny Beam isn’t denying the report. In fact, we've received some interesting data on the complex precision of the machine. There are 10 key phases of the operation and every one is a streamlined gesture to speed the game,
” n ” HAVE YOU SEEN that new car Bob Williams is piloting these days. The Star scrivener took .off the cellophane last week. We hear the lad is extremely, careful in parking the hardtop convertible. Even has scouting parties going ahead to look for space. Frankly, we don’t blame him. The car has a cream and sand colored: finish which presents a sprightly picture in the midst of eotraffic congestion. Williams also plans to buy a sport coat to match,
