THE INDIANAPOBIS TIMES __

ev ar———— . ——

W hen we gather to worship in our beautiful Indianapolis Churches tomorrow morning, the day which we call Easter will have already completed more than onehalf of its circuit of the earth. Easter belongs +6 every man in every land who is willing to open his heart to its symbolism of new hope—new life. Christians in the lands to the East will have already joined hearts with us in worship. And Easter night has come. To the West, in but a few hours more, the last congregation will sing as we sing: "Christ the Lord Is Risen Today," and Easter as a day will have passed.

Easter, as the name implies, was first a nature festival. And there is nothing wrong in that, for whenever winter turns to

spring men see life invincible in the face of death. Over and over again God has made it clear that man is not a creature of a day; but that he is "ordained to eternity." That was the message of the empty tomb. It is likewise the message of spring.

God has done His part. Now it is our turn. We must do our part.

‘ When man refuses t6 accept God, when he conceives of himself as a creature of a day, he achieves nothing, improves nothing, discovers nothing. Honor and obligation, justice and truth—these are terms describing things belonging to eternity, and men who believe life is eternity. Wherever a man experiences the truth of Easter, there you will find one putting forth gallant efforts to build a just society; there you will find a sense of honor and of obligation to the weak; there the arts develop beauty and the sciences labor in behalf of truth. Wi fl

Every man shall imately find his life determined by what he thinks of Easter. If he lives it as 5 trae he will find peace of mind, and tools to use in the cause of righteousness and peace—and the strength and

courage to use them. If he disbelieves or ignores Easter, he knows not hope, and his life can only be ruled by selfishness.

Man needs a greater future than he has had a past. It is this that makes him a child of God. Easter —spring; these are the proofs that we have such a future. May we live as though we knew it to be so.
