THREE YEARS AGO she entered The Times Sewing Contest and won first prize for a formal lpcally, honorable mention nationally. Two years ago she again won first prize for a formal in the local contest, but . gained no national recognition.
Last year the contestant won
three first prizes, one for an original design for a formal, one for a coat and one for a dressy dress. Jt was also learned the average woman sewing today is 35 years old, is married and has growing children. Her reason for purchasing a sewing machine was obviously to help her personally combat the high cost of llving since well over half had not received their machine as a gift or to start housekeeping but for the primary purpose of saving money by making clothes for themselves and their families, for mending and for making household furnishings.
