pir Fashion "THE year 1052 will go
down in fashion history as the beginning of the “Golden Age” in fabric.
‘More new fabrics have been dntroduced and talked about
:4his season than at any previous time,
Constant research which has continued since the discovery of nylon over 10 years ago is at last bearing fruit in the form of new materials that will be easy to care for, durable and beauti«
fal, . Unfortunately the sudden in-
Aroduction of many new fabrics simultaneously has resulted in
confusion on the part of the
Jebile. In order to clarity some 3f the technical nimes and Rronerties of these new ‘“wonder” fibers, we've collected information from manufacturers, local store buyers and research : us, Here it is, unbiased and in concentrated form.
Let's begin with milfum, Perhaps you have purchased or are contemplating purchasing
- & coat labeled “lined with Mil-
fum,” but it does not look any different from any other coat lining to you. The answer is that Millum is not a fabric, Mililum is a treatment that
can be applied to any fabric, Actually it is a metal that is sprayed on to the wrong side of
‘the lining. Because of its in-
sulating properties it keeps the wearer warmer by keeping the body heat inside the garment. By test it is as warm as an

untreated lining plus a 10ounce wool interlining. In warm weather it keeps the wearer cooler by deflecting the rays of the sun. Its practical aspect is that it provides warmth without bulk and is a year-round rather than a seas-
onal coat. Dry cleaning does
not destroy the Milium. » . . NEW SYNTHETIC fibers on the market are Orion, Dacron and Dynel. All of them are washable, can be permanently pleated, dry quickly with very little ironing, and are moth, mildew and flame resistant.

ORLON SHRUG COAT—Hand washable, charming over formals
os well as street dresses, white $33 in Ayres’ Collegienne Department.
The Beginning Of A ‘Golden Age’ With Fabulous New Fabrics
You will see each fiber in many different fabrics depending upon how it is woven. Orlon, for example, may be spun into fleecy fabrics that resemble wool. It may be made into a sheer mesh fabric or can turn up looking like cotton
chambray. It has the advantage over nylon in that it can be made into a more bulky, opaque fabric. it does not drape as readily as rayon crepe, but a combination of rayon and orlon ylelds a drapable fabric with additional wearing qualities and crease
resistance. Orlon, as all new synthetic fibers, is still in the experimental stage and as yet a dye has not yet been developed to achieve depth of color. For the present pure Orion will be available only in pastels, . ” » YOU'VE HEARD extravagant claims for the new “washable” coats. They live up to their claims, can be swished through suds at night, hunggup on a hanger to dry, and look like new and ready to wear by morning. They are made of Orlon from the inside out, even to the label. They will not

stretch or sag and the fleece does not curl into little balls as has been found to be the oase with nylon fleece.
Dacron is another washable synthetic fiber that drapes and tailors especially well. It has
‘A high degree of wrinkle re-
sistance and crease retention. It has good insulation properties making it a good fabric for either warm or cold weather. Currently it is being produced in only small quantities, but ghould be in more extensive production by fall.
Dynel is a gynthetic fiber that is still not in full production. It has the advantage over the other synthetics in that it can be spun to resemble almost any fabric and may be dyed to a full range of colors except white. It is now being used for suits and coats and for men’s hosiery and blankets. The drawback to this fiber is that it must be steam pressed or ironed
with a cover cloth,
