Bowling Council Elects New Officers May 2
THE INDIANAPOLIS Bowling Council will cast a
vote for adoption of a new constitution and by-laws when the organization meets on May 2. The text, drawn up by
Ted Siener, local American Bowling Congress representa~ |
tive, was reviewed by the counell Thursday during a meeting at the Murat Hotel. It appears Siener's draft will be ac¢epted with a unanimous bal- § fot. The next § meeting also features. nomi- “% nations and 7 election of of: & ficers. However, under provisions of the constitution special meetings may be called at the unanimous request of any member
group. The groups include the Indianapolis owling Association, Indianap-
olis Women's Bowling Association, and the Indianapolis Bowling Proprietors. The council's fiscal ear ends Apr. 30.
Champs in Four Groups
COURT FREELAND'S 702, fired in Milwaukee Mar. 20, gives rise to the question of how well Indianapolis bowlers have done in the past in the ABC championship tournament, "Indianapolis has produced champions in each of the four divisions of the tourney over a 49-year span. - Only If one division, the all-events competition, has the city raised two winners. In singles competition, M.-T.
Hoosier City winner, firing a 624 in the 1907 tournament in St. Louis, His games of 215, 202 and 207 tied him with R. T. Matak of 8t. Paul, Minn, Levey won the crown 4 a roll-off. In 1938, Don Johnson and Fonnie Bnyder turned the trick in the doubles fight. Johnson smashed 649 pins and Snyder dropped 688, giving them a total of 1337 maples. That tournament was run off in Chicago's Coliseum. The year 1036 produced an ABC five-man winner and an all-events champion for Indianapolis, The tournament was run over 32 alleys in the old State Fair Grounds Coliseum, forerunner to the present strueture. Coming out on top among 2853 teams competing was Falls City Hi-Bru quintet ich connected totals of 1033--1048 for 3080 and the plonship,
“Johnny Murphy won the
1936 all-events laurels with is in the team event, 882 in eo doubles and an individual run of 639. His total was 2008. The earliest Indianapolis winwas J. T. Peacock, who took the all-events championship in 1906 as the tourney was run over 16 alleys in the new Armory Building in Louisville, Ky. Peacock’s 585 in the fiveman outing, 591 in the twoman, and 618 individual score gave him 1794,

FRANK WILSON, Times’ special correspondent at the American Bowling Congress in Milwaukee, tells us the tourney gcorekeepers have managed to -gpell Indianapolis three ways. One was the correct way, the other two were variations of the Indian-Greek composite. . Of the two misspellings,
