Here's One Defensive Gem Usually Missed
HERE is one type of defensive play which is missed practically every time it comes up. I refer to the case where a low singleton is led from the dummy on your right and you have the ace and one or more other cards in the suit. The urge to go in with the ace is overpowering. The reason is, of course, that it appears to be a last-chance proposition. You take your ace now or you don’t get any tricks ih
the suit. ” » ”
NATURALLY, you have to consider the bidding and the looks of the dummy, but in the absence of any controlling reason for gaining the lead imme-
diately, the best play, usually, : is to duck.
In today's deal,
the ace of spades on the first lead of that suit, would wreck

His “Sand Street Sailors” are poetically simple with. very shallow crowns and brims either narrow or wide. ~ With a béw to his country (cousins, Frederics makes a oup of “Hayseeds” which ‘are smooth straws slashed in leaf-like designs to give a peek-a-boo surface. Graciously trimmed hats meant for New York after dark are named after the period, “Gracie Square.” Ostrich fringes floating on straw, or great lush roses weighing a brim, signify a part of old New York reborn for 1952.
Eat Good Breakfast
Breakfast is often considered the most important meal of the day. Don’t skip it. Plan to get from 14 to 34 of your day's food needs at this meal. A pattern, widely recommended by doctors and nutritionists, for planning good breakfasts calls for fruit, cereal, milk, bread and butter. /

Suggestions Offered for Kitchen Parties
+ AMERICAN tradition is . as important to t2enagers as it is to the older
generation. ‘Living in the kitchen is one of mankind's oldest of traditions, so why not have a modern party in that part of the
houge. This eliminates - all work for the hostess since the guests prepare the food.
All it takes is planning ahead of time, plenty of food and eager guests, Kitchen games can include such childhood favorites as dropping clothespins into a milk bottle, and any other team games in the repertoire of the hostess. "n » ” AS SOON AS the guests arrive, they can be ushered to the kitchen to start frying the bacon, cooking the hamburgers or hot dogs, fixing the cold cuts, cheese, relishes, bread or buns and preparing the coffee, cokes or hot chocolate. ° Whether the party planned get-together or an impromptu session after a game, the group will want to sit around (probably on the floor) and play some sort of games. These could vary from a sandwich contest to the more well-known charades, 20 questions, or the name's the thing. To surprise the gang suggest pinchy winchy. Seat everyone in a circle with a girl who is the leader next to a good sport. Unknown to ‘everyone she will have lipstick on both the index finger and thumb of her right hand. She will pinch the good sport on the cheek and he in
is a
turn will pinch the cheek of the
gir! next to him. This goes around the circle and the leader pinches the good sport on the nose. This can go on indefinitely, but can’t be played more than one time in the same group.

Here's New Use For Tipsticks
With such glamorous bejeweled, feather -tipped, and simulated goldplate lipsticks available everywhere: many women feel a pang of regret when each tube is finished. Some are even lipstick container hoarders. To be practical, clean out the residue of coloring matter in the tube with warm soapsuds, using a tiny brush to scrape out every speck. Pat the surface and airdry the inside overnight. Fill the clean container with your usual sudsmaker. One of these portable ‘soap dishes” can house an overnight supply of cleanliness—appropriate for the tiniest of handbags.
