New Nylon lingerie | Gives You Beauty

§ LONG ‘wear or lovely appearance more important in lingerie? Ten years ago a woman had to decide that

question before she could buy a. slip or gown, lingerie has changed all that.

Today a woman or girl can select lingerie which combines a lovely, fragile appearance with durability, In addition, she is free of the chore of iron-

ing. But there is still some “know-how” connected with getting the most for your

money in lingerie both for wear and good looks.” Here are some facts it’ will pay you to know about nylon tricot (pronounced tree-ko) lingerie which will stretch your dollars. Tricot 1s a knit, not a woven fabric. There are several types of commonly used knits, but a “tricot knit*will not run, ” ”n ” YOU CAN IDENTIFY the tricot knit from inferior knits by noting that on the_ right side of the fabric the tiny°ribs run up and down. On the reverse side the ribs run across. The tightness and fineness of the knit is a good gauge of the quality of the fabric. Any fiber — cotton, rayon, wool or nylon—can be made into a tricot knit, Nylon tricot, of course, is knit with nylon yarns. Weight for weight, nylon is stronger than steel wire yet lighter than any other commonly used fiber. Denier “(pronounced den- -yer) is the term which denotes the weight and thickness of the

Her nylon:

nylon yarn The higher the denier; the stronger and heavier the yarn, just as in hosiery, Thirty denier is twice as heavy and twice as strong as 15 denler,

” ” n NYLON TRICOT wears better than most other nylons for lingerie because it is flexible, Pull it and it stretches easily. It retains its. shape because it is “heat set” at a high temperature when it is manufactured. Nylon tricot dries like new, It dries fast, saves you time, frees you from the work of froning. To launder, use any good soap or synthetic detergent and warm water. Rinse well, For extra special speed In drying, roll the garment in a turkish towel for a moment, shake out the wrinkles and hang it up to dry. Don't wash white underthings with colored fabrics. Don't hang your lingerie on a rough rod or use rough clothespins which may snag it. Don’t hang it close toa hot radiator. Don't hang colored underthings in the sun. When you spend your dollar for a fine piece of nylon tricot lingerie (good slips range from $4.95 to $14.05) select it carefully, appreciate its beauty and take care of it. It will repay you dollar for dollar and more.

THE BODY —Never leaves a curve to chance.

What Goes Underneath

KELETONS are being dragged out of their red flannels this season and the flesh thereon is being shifted by

the magic of corsetry.

No longer need we blush prettily at the mere mention

of unmentionables. The emphasis in fashion is definitely on— the figure and must be talked about to be achieved. The tiny waist, the rounded hips and the molded bust are the foundation of the silhouet. The woman of today must learn to conform herself to the costume—pull in. her tummy, raise her bustline and hold her middle firm,

f 3 ” ” IF THE RESULTS of “you” in the mirror unadorned are less than satisfactory, a good

" corset can perform wonders.

Particularly recommended to achieve the current silhouet is “The Body” corset, photographed here in both black and

white. Designed by Frances Sider, who also creates [swimsuits and sportswear, it befriends everybody's figure. In long years of creating body-beautiful, action-ready clothes, Miss Sider knows what it takes to make those clothes look their best. This corset is an ingenious, strapless all-in-one that tames the ways of all flesh evenly, raturally for a sleek second-skin fit. A cleverly detached back prevents riding and thin, supple “spirals” replace heavy, constricting bones. It is available in a wide range of sizes in the corset depart-. ment of Ayres’.

Shellac Will Stick

To get paint to adhere to new tin, first sandpaper the surface and make sure it is free of grease. Then coat with fresh shellac. When dry, the application of paint will not only take but the base of shellac will help spread the paint further.

My Day—

She Attends Gorden Party

Given by Vianizam Nizam

By ELEANOR ROOSEVELT ALLAHABAD, India, Mar. 26—Before we left Gov-

ernment House we attended a garden party given by.

Vianizam Nizam in Hyderabad. This gentleman came to New Delhi for the governor's meeting and it was his first

visit in 16 years, I am told this ‘was the first time he had seen the palace here which was 7 built for his family. The garden where the party was held is very beautiful. All our friends were there, so we had ‘a chance to say goodbye to many of the guests who had at-

tended the Governor's Conference. : Mr. Nizam, "himself, is

a rather fabulous character, I gather, He looked somewhat inconspicuous except for a very high and gorgeous headdress. He took me at once to meet his daughter who was sitting alone on a sofa. We talked for a while. I am sold Mr. Nizam is probably one of the richest men in the world due to the fact that he takes every opportunity to save even a penny; but his tea was certainly a lavish and pleasant party. After the Prime Minister and President left, the rest of us started back for Government House where we had an early dinner and went to the train. The government provided us with a private car attached. to Governor Mady’s car, since my visit to Etawah coincided with the governor's, though his date had been set many weeks earlier. We started .out at 8:30 and drove about 40 minutes before we came to our first stop, where they had prepared to show the governor and myself some charts illustrating the work done in the villages covering this area. The people themselves have succeeded, with guidance and very little outside help. ” ” » ON THE TRAIN the evening before, Horace Holmes,

who started this work and who got his training at Cornell University, came in to talk with me about what they were doing, so I had a little background to help me observe. This project is of vast impor- | tance. If they can succeed, in four years time they will reach one hundred million in the rural areas of India. It is not an easy way they have set themselves to work. They are Der | to make the le people do most of

the work themselves, since they know that only in that way can they be brought to feel that what they have accomplished is their own; and only if they feel that will they fight to spread this better way of life throughout India. Very little is given them, even when the government subsidizes a small part of the undertaking perhaps on the basis of a loan. If it is an experiment, the subsidy comes to an end once the experiment has proved successful.
