Feminine Curves
elose terms with old Sol, come up with some new ideas
not only for under the sun, but for the witching hours |
as well, These talented style creators advocate feminine curves. While some sources say the walstline is a floating affair, (it'gy going
up and down like a department
store elevator), California designers anchor it where it should be anchored—at the waist. The middy look is fine for Uncle Sam's sailors, but it's the hand-span midriff the boys want to come home to, and the West coast trend-setters of the fashfon world agree. . x 0» THE GOLD THAT USED to be in “them thar hills” is now to be found in some of the fanciest fabrics that ever graced the feminine back. There are cottons with as much glitter as a Hollywood picture premiere, but they're still washable, Gold and silver threads are woven in / a plaid effect, or some cottons gleam with a printed metallic luster. There are also jewelled jackets, beadtrimmed bodices and rhinestones sprinkled generously on shorts and skirts and dresses to go marketing in. Best news for the gal who works—and this includes those at home as well as in offices— are the fabrics that need no ironing. Orlon and nylon, and mixtures of the two, come in various guises. In one case, it looks like a fine wool fleece, but all you do is wash it out and hang it up to dry... and when it's a coat that's able to be tubhed, it's news.
Other synthetics have a cool, porous, frosted look, similar to fine tweed, but they are so light and you can wear them in the hottest weather—and what's more, those pleated skirts stay in forever. ; . " EJ CALIFORNIA DESIGNERS tip their bonnets to grandmother for the Gibson Girl in
fluence—and here's where the |
California favorite of shirt 'n skirt combination, not to mention that curved walstline— comes in.
Today, with a swish of a more-than-ankle revealing skirt (it hits mid-calf this season), petticoats are worn in layers under a full-blown dress or coat. In some cases, particularly in street suits, the skirt is less full than a season ago, with gores stemming from a smoother hipline.
Practically every designer has a Spencer jacket or coat in the current collections—they are all-important as an accessory after the fact—the fact of full, bouffant or flared skirts that are-in such favor. » - td STRIPES ARE TO be found in abundance—wide and narrow, printed or woven, raised or textured. Sometimes called candy stripes, or mascara stripes, or pin stripes—all are used in variety for coats, dresses, suits and playclothes.
And what about the silhouet? Is it long and lean, or is it
- rounded and full? The answer is
yes to both, for no one silhouet is dominant.
