One of the more common early repair jobs 18 replacing woodwork that has been damaged by decay or insects. Now gentlemen, it jsn't very smart to replace a piece of wood that was damaged bv another that's ‘also going to be damaged in a short, time. What vou want is something that will stay put for a good many years tn come. Some woods stay put longer than others, Cypress and redwood are tough and very resistant to decay, but an even wiser idea is to use wood that hag heen chemically treated to preserve it from insects and decay. Many lumber yards stock lum- “ her that has been treated with ‘a preservative and while wood of this sort will cost a little more, it doesn’t require any other finish and will outlast ordinary! wood many times over. If your vard doesn’t stock “lumber that) has been treated with a preservative, buy ordinary stuff and treat it yourself. Wood preserva-| tives. are available that can be applied by brush and will do a gap job, Wood treated in this fashion does not have to be painted unless you wish to do so for decorative effect, If you wish] to. paint, be sure to select a pre-| servative that can be painted over-—some can’t.
