Pentagon Luxury Living Rooms Afford Excellent Views

By ELIZABETH TOOMEY

KR YORE, ari

Pentagon living rooms and

two-story penthouses with,

more closets than a castle are the latest additions to luxury apartment living here. At one end of an exclusive six-block strip bordering the East River fp midtown Manhattan, future tenants are getting their first peek at quarters in a 19-story apartment bullding that is supposed to include all the wonders of life in Amer-

“ica.

“= Complete air conditioning in-

side and “a panoramic view of ¢ountry-like charm” are two of the. wonders the building boasts. You can also view the United Nations buildings from one side of the apartment building, and the cluster of efclusive brick residences along

Sutton Place from the other

side. . ” "

THE PENTAGON living rooms provide a jutting corner

of windows aimed in the direction of the East River. Instead of a flat picture window, which would require the dweller either to stick his head out of the window or walk out onto the terrace to see the river, Architect Arthur Weiser concelved the idea of the fivesided room.

There's a garden for the tenants on- the inside rim of the bullding which they can view from their terraces too. Only unlike the country, you won't be allowed to walk in the garden. Only look. The two duplex penthouses atop the building have already been rented to unidentified tenants who can afford to pay $15,000 a year. For their money they get nine rooms, plus seven

bathrooms, 22 closets and terraces on three sides of their rooftop home. » » » THERE ARE ALSO less spectacular features such as electric dish washers, silent light switches and a combination heating and air conditioning unit. You don’t even have to lean down to floor level to adjust the heat or cold afr. The dial is concealed at the top of the units. The smallest apartment rents for $141 on the lower floors of the new buildings which will open in June. However, rents go up five dollars a floor for each apartment, ' The ground floor equivalent of the penthouse—called a maisonette in the new building —1is a two-story dwelling with a4 private entrance from the street. Only it rents for a mere $9500 as a result of being 19 floors lower than a penthouse. f :
