600D FRIENDS GET TOGETHER—Jack Benny (right), with all the trusting innocence of long friendship, will have George Burns and Gracie Allen as his Quests on his TV show tonight at 7 on
Channels 6 and 10. From the ing what ‘madness she's cooking
TV and Radio—2
ook in Gracie's eyes, there's no tell-
up for the occasion.
Benny Takes Another Crack at TV Tonight
By Kathleen
THIS IS THE night—Jack Benny makes another of | his rare TV performances—and he'll have George Burns|
pitch. The three comedians will combine their ‘talents to present a sketch written especially for the show seen on Channels 6 and 10 at 7 p. m.—and with Gracie,
there's no telling what will happen when she opens her “mouth.
There's hope in the fact that Benny's man Rochester. will be on hand and %a four-cornered battle of wits is in the offing.
That man Rochester has a way sociate professor on the Indiana |
about him.
Enlivening the proceedings also will be portly, jocular announcer Don Wilson and the Sportsmen Quartet. Jack Benny and George Burns have been friends since their early days in vaudeville. Back in those days they shared bachelor quarters and started pulling jokes on each other.
A good example of their wit occurred after George and Gracie had made their radio debut. Jack addressed a fan letter to his pal: “I listened to your program last night and I think it was swell. I would appreciate it very much if you would send me a picture of Tom Mix's horse.” Forthwith, George found a photo of a jackass and inscribed it “To my very dear friend, Jack Benny.” -Jack acknewledged it with ‘@hank you for your picture.” On one occasion Jack wrote George a six-page letter. George,
. it seems, was too busy to answer,
#0 he switched the names in the salutation and signature. and] sent the letter back. Jack redoubled, and for a year and a half, that was the only letter that passed between them. As you can see, the show tonight should hit an all-time high for the two gagsters. = ~ " Another letter-writing contest has ended and we're all ready to launch the new subject for this week. This time we'd like to know what your - favorite comedy show on TV is—and why it is that particular show. That should be an easy letter to write—and the $5 prize will be awarded, as usual, for the most interesting contribution. Deadline for letters Is midnight, Thursday. Address them. to: TV _ Editor, Indian-
apolis Times. ”
