Not so very long ago we got eager and pafieled a room in knotty pine. Trouble was that the pine wasn't so. knotty and didn’t have much natural color to jt, and every time we showed it to someone they just. sald “blah and walked away, This sort of worried us for awhile and we took to brooding. Finally we got up enough ambition to do something ahout it. First, we gave the sur face a good sanding to, remove foot prints left by a =mall cat and then we dusted and coated the entire surface with a fhin coat of white shellac When this was dry we took gray paint and mixed in a little green until we had a color we thought at the time was mort of nice, We thinned the paint down with a little turpentine go it had a nice brushing consistency and then we applied it to » small portion of the paneling Before the paint had a chance to dry we wiped it off with a pad made out of several layers of clean cheesecloth. . Of course, we didn't wipe it all nff-—some of the paint penetrated into the wood but this was really more like a stain than a paint, The grain of the wood was still visible and so were the knots when | there were knots to be vigible, We kept this routine
