b : By United Press WASHINGTON, Mar. 1-The ttorney of a 20-year-old soldier convicted for falling asleep while on guard in Korea today cited Abraham Lincoln's famous pardon of a Union soldier to prove he has a strong case for mercy. - Washington Attorney Myron Ehrlich ‘said the case of Pfc. Warren McConnell, Alloway, N. J., 1s similar to that of the youth who was pardoned: by Lincoln

for falling asleep at his post. Pfc. McConnell, a veteran of the bloody fighting at Heartbregk Ridge, claims he had been awake for 72 hours before falling asleep on guard duty, He was courtmartialled and sentenced to 10 years in prison and given a dishonorable discharge.

‘A Stronger Case’

Mr. Ehrlich said the Union soldier also had been without sleep for many hours before he fell asleep at his sentry post. In pardoning the soldier, Lincoln made him give his word of honor that he would be ‘a good: soldier. The youth later was mortally wounded in battle. “If anything, this is a stronger
