Soloist last night was Marie Zorn, pianist and teacher formerly of Indianapolis, now of the IU faculty. Miss Zorn and the orchestra did the Mozart E flat Concerto, K, 482, with more accuracy on Miss Zorn's part than on the orchestra's. One serious defect of the Philharmonic's performing. still remains uncorrected, and that is persistent off-pitch playing in. atrings, particularly in clear, bright material like Mozart. (It was noticeable last night also in the Borodin B minor Symphony, which concluded the program.)
Masters Phrasing, Tone
Miss Zorn has enviable facility in the scales, broken chords and trills Mozart piano concertos call for. She has also some nice ideas of phrasing and tone, As of last night, and perhaps the instrument was disappointing her, she seldom rose above a mezzo-forte in velume. ~
