‘Symphony’ Last Word In Camera Artistry

By Kathleen WALTER REULEUX has quite a job cut out for himself when he steps into the WFBM-TV control room Tuesday evenings at 8 p. m. and assumes direction of the “Indianapolis Symphony’ telecast. Some of the best local work yet done on television is being.turned out by Mr, Reuleux as ne puts past symphonic experience to work in planning camera angles and creating a mood in keeping with the music. Working with three cameras at his command, Mr. Reyleux keeps § one elevated six feet for shots of ‘the various sections. of the orchestra in particular productions. Another is kept at the back of the orchestra, sé the viewing audiencé has an “orchestra-eye” view .of director Fabien Sevitzky. The third camera remains ready at all times for standard shots of the orchestra in full. This is the only show at WFBM-TV. using three cameras--and the effect is telling. Mr. Reuleux can’t just walk into the studio and assume direction of the “Symphony” show, “Days before, he acquires copies of all the music to be performed. Then he memorizes as much as he can—so that no special part will go unnoticed. He times the scores and notes at what time a certain camera must be ready. And at all times during the per] formance he keeps his eve on monitors in the control room, the orchestra and conductor and the
