George Edick Dies; : Publisher, GOP Leader

George J. Edick, newspaper publisher and secfetary of the Indiana Republican Committee for the last five years, died at his home in Plaififield following .a heart attack this morning. He was 60. ’ Prominent in GOP politics. for 20 years, Mr. Edick was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 1945 and _ 1947 sessions and became secretary of the State GOP Committee in March, 1947. For many years Mr. Edick had been editor and publisher of the Plainfield Messenger and the Clayton Commercial and served several years as Sixth District director of the Indiana Republican Editorial Association.

Born in Iowa «Born in Marshalltown, Iowa, Mr, Edick worked on small newspapers in Iowa as a young man and later worked on newspapers in Georgia. . | He came to Indiana more than 20 years ago and organized the| Edick - Frankel Advertising Agency in Indianapolis. In 1917, he purchased the Plainfield and Clayton newspapers and had operated them continuously since that time.
