HIGHLIGHTS of 1901
OUR 39th YEAR OF PROVIDING AMPLE, DEPENDABLE ELECTRIC POWER TO FARMS, HOMES, BUSINESS FIRMS AND INDUSTRIES IN OUR SERVICE AREA
Great strides were made by the Company during 1951 in the addition of new generating, transmission, distribution and related facilities as planned, in connection with PSCl's great $245,000,000 1941-1954 expansion program. Here are the interesting highlights:
NOBLESVILLE GENERATING STATION'S fo FIRST ANNIVERSARY YEAR —This new station, adding nominal capability of more than 120,600 horsepower to the Public Service system, celebrated its first "full year of service in December, 1951. When placed in service, it brought the Company's total generating capacity up to more than three times what it had been in 1940.
PLAINFIELD GENERAL HEADQUARTERS ACTIVATED —In January of 1951, the new general headquarters of the Company at Plainfield, in the heart of the Company's 70-county service area, were sufficiently completed to accommodate various operations formerly conducted in Indianapolis and a number of other locations: This concentration of many basic operations at one central location was a long step toward more efficient operations, resulting in still better service to the more than 320,000 farms, homes, businesses and industries served by the Company.
DRESSER STATION MADE MIGHTY CONTRIBUTION — Still the Company's largest generating station (until the completion of the new Wabash River Station now under construction) the Dresser Station at Terre Haute, with a nominal capability. of 295,000 horsepower is a big reason those we serve had ample electric power available for their increasing needs during 1951. High voltage transmission lines, emanating from Dresser, and from the other generating stations of the Company, carry huge quantities of electric power many miles throughout our service area, supplying, through distribution centers, the requirements of everyone the Company serves.
EDWARDSPORT STATION HAS NEWEST UNIT ADDED TO THE PSCI SYSTEM —The addition of Unit No, 8 (87,000 horsepower normal capacity) added to the Edwdrdsport generating station during 1951, brought this station's nominal continuous output capability up to 238, 000 horsepower, Additional high voltage transmission lines and substation facilities to make this new power supply available to those we serve were under construction at the year's end.

CONSTRUCTION OF COMPANY'S GIANT WABASH RIVER STATION GOT UNDER WAY —
Biggest PSC! construction news of 1951 was the announcement that actual construction had been started on the huge Wabash River Station, having a total nominal capability of 483,000 horsepower. This station, about 10 miles north of Terre Haute on the banks of the Wabash, will house four 90,000 kilowatt units, scheduled to be added to the company system in December, 1952; June, 1953; May, 1954; and August, 1954, respectively. This project also includes the addition of approximately 278 miles of 230,000-volt transmission lines and related substation and distribution facilities to carry this vast new electric power supply from the station throughout the Company's service area. When completed, the Wabash River Station's power supply will bring the Company's total generating capability up fo more than 1,100,000 horsepower— six times the Sompeny's 1940
supply!

Construction Program Developments
This Company's almost.unbelievable rate of expansion, already accomplished and scheduled for the years ahead, is being undertaken for just one reason—to make sure the electric power needed by those we serve will be there, When and where needed; now and inthe future. In addition to the more than 320,000 fellow-Hoosiers we serve directly, PSCI is responsible for maintaining plenty of power for the municipal systems which pur-

year record we ‘have set with all those we serve of no power shortage, dependability and low rates, is one we are determined to maintain. These gigantic and costly additions to our facilities speak for themselves—and this Company will continue to make new additions when the needs of those we serve require them.
In July 1951, the Company acquired all the outstanding capital stock of Madison Light and Power Company, an Indiana corporation, serving approximately 7,000 customers located in the City of Madison, Indiana, and nearby communities and rural areas in Clark, Jefferson, Jennings, Scott and Ripley Coun‘ties. Such territory is immediately adjacent to areas served by the Company, and the Company had for many years supplied to the Madison Company a portion of its electric energy requirements. On August 31, 1951, the Madison Company was

In the past five years alone the kilowatt-hour sales of the Company have increased 1057,—from 1,380,003,000 in 1946 to 2,824,930,000 in 1981. While this tremendous i increase was greatly stimulated by stepped-up industrial activity in our territory associated with national defense, the ratio between domestic, commercial and industrial sales has been consistently maintained—showing that all major classifications. of electric users have experienced proportionate increases in electric power use.
Looking toward the Future
As always, the future poses a challenge to this vital industry, just as it does to the interests of every individual we serve. Like yourselves, we have long since recognized that, turbulent as these years are through which we are passing, it behooves each of us, as individual citizens and as workers, to make the best = gontribution of which we are capable to maintain our-precious American way of life. In this world-wide struggle between the’ champions of Free Enterprise and those who seek-to undermine it, electricity is,and must continue to be, a mighty ally to our manpower, agriculture and industry. It is in solemn recognition of the big responsibility that rests in the experienced hands of this Company's s employees that we pledge anew our unqualified cooperation to do, oir full part in maintaining the Free Enter- ) prise System of our America. ph —— A %
