U.S. Experts | Predict CIO | ° | Wage Hike | WASHINGTON, Feh, 25 (UP) —Government labor experts said yesterday that a steel settlement may touch off several small walk-/| outs but that they hope any big defense-crippling strikes can be avoided this spring. Officials said a “deal” involving a fairly substantial steel price increase as well as a sizable wage

Steelworkers is almost certain. They added that they expect the case to be cleaned up without a walkout before Mar. 23 — new strike deadline set by the steelworkers in Pittsburgh last week to. give the Wage Stabilization Board time to recommend a settlement. s

A morning fire, which razed the roof at 260-62 N. Gray St, had a worried mother helping hustle her ill daughter from their smoking home to a neighbor's house. Piscovered by a passing truck driver, who warned both families in the double, the fire around a defective flue and spread over three-fourths of the roof. Mrs. Ethel Brock-Jfones; 40, rushed upstairs where her daughter, Jane Ellen, 8, was bed-ridden with influenza. She said Jane was standing, looking at the smoke pouring through the ceiling when she arrived in the room. On the other side of the double, the owners, Mr. and Mrs, Jacob Gernstein were eating breakfast when the truck driver raised the alarm.
