There are still lots of people in tha United States who want a
~ story and a half home so this! ‘week we have an excellent design
of this style. One of the chief reasons why this semi-Cape Cod style home is popular is because it does provide a lot of cubic feet of living area for less money. The exterior has been designed of brick with wood gable ends and dormers but it would look attractive if built of blocks or all wood siding. Let's take a peek inside. there is a small hall and directly ahead are the stairs leading up. Construction Still - At Near-Record Levels in January
Construction activity continued at near-record levels in January after allowance for seasonal factors, according to a report issued jointly by the Department of Commerce and the Labor Department’ Bureau of Labor Statistic. The total value of new con-| struction put in place during January amounted to more than $2.1! millions, a’ 4 per cent decline from December, and a slight rise above the January, 1951, total. Substantial increases over the year in military, industrial,’ and public utility construction maintained the level of construction outlays despite reductions in housing, commercial building, | Highway and some other types of construction. School building activity also was above a year ago in January. The “value of residential buildIng, ‘estimated at $720 million, was 20 per cent below a year age. The drop in home building activity from 1950 record levels! was halted, temporarily, at least, by the middle of last year. Since that time, it has followed a seasonal pattern at a level arourd 20 per cent below 1950. . Industrial and most other types; of private nonresidential building advanced in January. The relatively high level of activity at this time reflects improved distribution of controlled materials for e¢onstruction under way, and a sub-! stantial volume of self-certified work.
