Announcing
‘Candidacy
| Former National American Legion Comimander George N. Craig. who was expected to announce his candidacy for the GOP governor nomination yesterday, has side-stepped the move for another month, He told a meeting of Craig-for-{Governor boosters ate-the Claypool Hotel he wanted to spend the next four weeks ‘talking to the people of Indiana to find out what they think of my candidacy.” He explained his hesitation to become a candidate is “not an attempt to be coy or to be demanded.” “There's a fight going on in this country which i= a lot bigger than personal ambition or illusions of stature,” he said. »
Explains Issue ==
The former Legion Commander said thé real issue is whether the Republican Party “can fight through the bastions of corruption, greed and ‘cynically -purchased votes to place a Republican President in .the White Housg.” iy Only two randidates have announced thus far for the GOP Governor race. They are Samuel R. Harrell, former executive “of the Acme-Evans Co. here, and State Sen. John VanNees Val paraiso, GOP majority leader of the Indiana Senate.

It was Dr. Beecher who sold a stave girl from his pulpit in the Plymouth Church, Brooklyn, N. Y.. as a demonstration of the evil of the slave trade. He also is said to have persuaded England not to- enter the Civil War on the side of the South.
