» of Mo » SUCH “LIVELY and sensible images” hark back to a form used by Egyptian priests and philoso- - phers of ancient days. The Egyptian scholars employed the hieroglyphics, we are told, for an ex-| actly opposite reason from that which prompted the compiler of
the Bible.
The Egyptians wished to cloud thus confining learning to the special, few. This Bible, on the contrary, was printed in rhebuses to attract
the writing with mystery,
the interest of many.

Sermon of the Week-—
Scripture: “Marvel not that I sald unto thee, Ye must he born again.” John 3:7.
OUR LORD seldom told His hearers that they must .do something. His was more often “the ‘way of loving entreaty. » To the tired and weary his invitation was, “Come unto Me, and { will give you rest.” To those in search of adventure he bade, ‘Follow Me,” He urged all who realized their lack of wisdom to “Learn of Me.” But there was one subject in which He was adamant: “Ye must be born again.” What solemn words they have been to millions. They -are just as
| fascinating today as the night | when Jesus
uttered them in reply to the questioning of Nicodemus. a They describe adequately the condition of eternal life. They are truly a great mysterious expression, but must become an experience of the heart transformed .if you are to have peace of soul and victory in spiritual life. ’ ” » » MANY THINK (it narrowminded to insist that a person be “born again” to be a Christian. They: wonder why it is, that a good moral and honest person is not a Christian. But where in the Bible does it mention that goodness and morality are sufficient’ to merit the experience? Does respectability make a person right with God? If it could, then Nicodemus would have been all right. He would never have needed to seek Jesus for he was a Jew and to many nothing else was necessary.
But to Nicodemus Jesus directly declared, “Ye must be born again.” If his goodness could not save him, then surely our goodness cannot save. Us. Though he had been a religious man who had kept the commandments of Moses to the best of his ability that was not good enough. To this man who was a Jew, a good man, and a religious man Jesus said, “Ye must.” And so must you. This experienc2 is not a mere reformation, tion.
construction of life by a new
plan on a new foundation which |
is Christ.

gymnastics, or good resolutions, but is wrought by the miraculous power of Christ that brought a radicygl, supernatural and ‘instantaneous change in Zaccheus, Peter, Paul and a host of others, o THIS EXPERIENCE makes us citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven and Sons of God in the same manner that physical birth in America makes us citizens of this great nation, The experience is indispensable since eternal life is the most important truth in the Bible. It is most important because it determines man’s future destiny. For this reason it is wisdom on our part to give heed to the incisive words of Jesus, “Ye Must Be Born Again.” Christ has accomplished all that is necessary by His death on Calvary that the experience can be yours. Yet it is conditional. One must meet the terms laid down by our Lord. He said, “To as many as received Him (Christ), to them gave He power to become .the Sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: Which are born, not of blood, rior of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of Gnd.”--John 1:12, 13. No righteousness of our own can
prevail. No merit of our own can avail. “Ye Must Be Born Again.”
