movies this week. All tastes, from heavy drama to light comedy, will be satisfied at one or another of the theaters. Starting Friday at the Circle is “Phone Call From a

Stranger,” with Shelley Winters, Gary Merrill and Bette Davis. " “Ione Star,” with Clark Gable and Ava Gardner,” teamed for the first time, will begin Thursday at the Loew's. Times’ preview of the week is “Lady Possessed,” beginning Friday at the Esquire, It stars June Havoc and James Mason. Groucho Marx and Marie Wilson receive star billing in “A Girl in Every Port” which can be seen at the Indiana beginning Friday. The: Lyric changes its bill Tuesday to ‘On Dangerous Ground,” with Ida Lupino and Robert Ryan.

Temporarily leaving her directing duties with her own company, Ida Lupino returns to the screen

Romance and drama the constrasting locales of a big city and a snow-covered countryside motivate the movie which features Miss Lupino, Robert Ryan and Ward Bond. Ryan plays a tough, embittered cop, Miss Lupino is a blind girl devoted to her erratic young brother, and Bond. plays one of the most powerful roles seen on the screen in recent years as the father of a murdered ‘girl. His insane desire for revenge proves a hindrance Ryan throughout the picture.
