At the Statehouse, Democrats talk openly of Mr. Hulman becoming an active candidate for office. In the offices of the Alcoholie Beverage . Commission, . the talk is widespread. Some Democrats pooh-poohed the reports. One top state official, who is regarded. as one of the top candidates for Governor himself, said: “I knew he was fooling around with the idea of becoming Governor, but I didn’t know what ticket he wanted to run on. I didn’t know he was a Democrat.”

Another Democratic state official said Mr. Hulman once held a Republican appointment. However, a check of Mr. Hulman’s voting record in Terre Haute disclosed when he last voted in a primary, 1936, he voted in the Democratic primary. In revoted in the primary election, only general elections. At present Mr. Hulman is on a fishing trip in South America, One politiclan interviewed this morning said Mr, Hulman's politi-| cal leanings are much the same, as were Gen.
