were the

closing words on the invitations to the neighborhood barbecue held yesterday by Squaw Carl Fisher, W. 76th St. As guests entered the social room where the barbecue

pits were, they were greeted by Mrs. Fisher's young son and daughter who wore Indian costumes, According te an old Indian tradition, a new tribe member was obliged to entertain all the squaws in her group upon initiation. In keeping with this old custom, Mrs. Fisher, who recently moved here from Dayton, invited her neighbors to a barbecue luncheon.

Parties—V alentine or Otherwise—Lead Home Entertaining’

VERYBODY loves a party. An invitation . to one brings forth smiles and

murmurs of delight. For parties are unquestionably the most popular form of home entertaining among men and women from teen years on, Some people's partigs, however, are always just a little gayer and more sparkling than others,

» u 5 x THERE ARE MANY reasons why this is so. Most of these reasons stem directly or indirectly from the host or hostess. To help you as a hostess climb into the “upper brackets’ of party givers, tips to keep in mind every time you plan and give a party. To be a well-liked hostess always extend an invitation far enough in advance for people to make plans accordingly. An invitation = two or three weeks ahead "of time gives greater importance to the party ahd re-

is not a second choice.

” of ‘Ss WHEN GUESTS ARRIVE, it is up to the hostess to greet them at the door even if it necessitates excusing yourself from a group that arrived earlier. For your smile and personal greeting at the door immediately put your guests at ease and convey to them a feeling of warm welcome. Just as soon as you have taken your guest's coat and hat, be sure to introduce the new arrival to everyone in the group. Nothing in the whole gamut of social experience can be more terrifying

Jo most people than to face a

group without an introduction! Learn how to channel conversation. If you know the discussion of a specific topic might lead to heated words or arouse violent reactions, try to turn the conversation in other directions. This is a skill which requires a great deal of tact and practice, but
