CINCINNATI, O., Feb. 8— It will be more appropriate to

call the St. Louis Cardinals the night owls this season,

but . actually the whole National League will he involved in more

after-dark games than ever be-

fore, the official 1952 schedule re-

vealed today.

There will be a record number of 220 night games and the Cardinals have scheduled exactly one-fourth of them — 55 — for Sportsmans Park. The over-all total is 11 more than the 209

which were scheduled for last season. The biggest increase for| any one club was made by the Phillies, who added seven more

nighters for a total of 43. =» - . DESPITE THE fact only seven National League clubs play night

eos Dall at home, and despite new rules in the American League!

which permit almost unlimited night play, the National still will

play the most games under lights. With 216 night contests listed for the eight American League teams, the grand total oo for the majors this season is/ 436 or better than one out of every threa that will be played

in the 1232 two-league grind.

Both leagues thus will be operating during. the week on more 538 of a night than day-time schedule. g3/ In the National, there are only 167 week-day afternoon games

listed—and 48 of them are in

Chicago, which has no lights. In

the American, 157 week-day

games are on the schedule for a ,/8rand total of 324 in. the majors.

That's just a little better than

2 one out of every four on the two schedules.
