According to. Mr, Schmidt's wife, Nelma, he was taking Cpl Stapp home from the ‘Ritter Inn 4668 S. Ritter Ave. Mrs. Schmidt =aid her husband had played shuf fleboard.at the tavern, Both were crushed, and died in the .car within 15 minutes after the crash, The truck driver, Richard Ma tin, 27, Lakewood, Colo., was not hurt, t He told Deputy Sheriff C| T Cox that he had pulled to/ the edge of U. 8. 52 (Brookville Rd.) when the motor gave trouble. Deputy Cox said the truck was still on the pavement but at the very edge of the 51-foot highway hear the eastern limits of the city This allowed room for Mr. Schmidt to pass the stalled truck, 1ights on both tractor and trailer were burning brightly when Deputy Cox arrived, about five minutes after the fatal crash. Driver Martin told the deputy he did not have time to put out warning flares before the acci dent, : oa Mr. Schmidt's body was taken to Shirley Bros Irving Hill Chapel, where his funeral will be held at 1:30 p. m. Friday. Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery here, Besides his wife and soldier son, he is survived by Three other sons, Wilbur and John W. Jr, both of Indianapolis, and William, Union City, 0. Four daughters, Marian, Elsie, and Vera Schmidt, who lived with him, and Mrs, Katherine Hampton, Salina, Kas. Four brothers, Carl and Henry,
