Call It Quits

Dear Homemakers: by LOUIS RAINIER

Mr. Harry T. Lindstaedt interior decorator, Rainier’s, who was in Chicago last week, attending the 1952 Furniture Market, tells us that word *“functinal” is going to be around for some time. At least, that's what the mid-winter furniture markets predict for 1952. From heavy stock to portable items, merchandise ‘is designed “to do things.” Although the new furniture collections are geared to service, there's no loss in eye appeal. Modern furniture, the quantity item at this market, is out of the fledgling stage, and there's more of everything: More combinations of wood with marble, plastic, cork, wrought iron and glass, more natural wood finishes such as “wormy chestnut” and “sap-streak walnut.” : An increasing number of fluid form designs proves curves and straight lined furniture mix well. One notes also that there are more ocgasional pieces to do double duty for small-size homes, more®mixing of woods and,- better news to the homemaker, more use of warpproof, stainproof materials for cabinet and table tops. Although modern furniture is making a grand slam bid for the nation’s buyers, even traditional furniture (American and French Provincial) has been revamped to answer consumer demands for functional furniture. Even the old cedar chest has a new look for 1952—drawers on three sides for storage—and a mirror. Easy Terms Available Sincerely, Open Eves. Till 9 LOUIS RAINIER and Staff
