Three Girls
Convicted in
$18,000 Theft
LYNN, Mass., Dec. 27 -(UP)— Two baby-sitters who financed a free-spending trip to New York by taking $18,000 from one of their employers. were sent to a juvenile deliquents’ home yester-| day and a third was given a suspended prison term. The girls, weeping and redeyed, presented a far different pic-| ture in court from what they did in New York where they wisecracked with reporters after their arrest. Roberta McCauley, 15, of, Nahant and Marilyn Curry, 18, of Lynn were sent to the Youth Service Board Reception Center at Lancaster, Mass., for an indefinite period of rehabilitation. | Their companion, Eileen Jeffrey, 17, of Lynn was convicted of | larceny and given a two- -year| suspended sentence. She was ordered to spend the next year at! House of the Good Shepherd in| Springfield, a Catholic home for girls. “You have made a mistake and | you must be made to pay,” Judge Landergan told the weeping, redeyed girls. “It 18 just as hard for me to sentence you as it is for you to accept the sentence.” . .. | Roberta and Marilyn Were | judged delinquents by reason of the larceny of $18,000 from the Nahant home of Dr. Albert H. Covner Oct. 19 while Roberta was supposed to be minding the doc-! tor's child. Dr. Covner later com-! mitted suicide. The girls were seized in New| York after spending $3000 on al night-clubbing and clothes- -buy- | ing spree. They sald they had been fleeced of the other $15,000 by some Broadway sharpies.
