Washington relayed the order to Pfc. Waldeck’s commanding general in San Diego. The commanding officer in Sa nl Diego reporaed back to Gen. Cates that Pfc. Waldeck, as per orders, had received a well-fiting pair of dress pante and was on his way home for Christmas. The Marine Corps also assured Mrs. Waldeck that, during his boot training, Pfc. Waldeck wore the utility uniform issued to all recruits, But it said he certainly couldn't wear that on leave—

hence the need for the specially made dress pante with the 45-inch waist.
