Fireplaces are not included in many modern homes, yet they are included. in the Santa stories read by boys and girls. time when our children were small we lived in a house without a fireplace. With their help we decided to make a “fireplace,” and even though ‘it was made from paper ‘packing boxes and covered with crepe “brick” paper, they enjoyed it perhaps even more than

the real ones we had later.

Just a big carton can be cut out and covered for a fireplace, or iseveral boxes can be used to make a larger and stronger one. brick crepe paper is not available, brown wrapping paper can be pasted over the boxes and then painted to look like bricks. White shelf paper can be used to make a mantel or shelf to hang the stockings from, and a greeting may be painted along the front. -If you try to make an artificial fire, remember that an elecere [l|tric bulb against paper can be DANGEROUS! il|fireproof container, and check all wiring.
