Reds Give Inside On U.S. Corruption

By CHARLES LUCEY Scripps-Howard Staff Writer WASHINGTON, Dec, 13 —

Soviet Russia’s world propaganda. offensive gleefully has taken up the theme of government graft and corruption in the U. 8 A number of Moscow broadcasts to overseas listeners recently have dealt in sarcasm and ponderous satire with bribery of fed~ eral officials, § the operations of a “crime trust,” the tie between the underworld and government and Internal Revenue Bureau disclosures. The Soviets recently had great fun in broadcasting a mock office scene depicting American graft. The peg on which the jolly little drama was hung was a U. S. news interview in which defense production boss Charles E. Wilson undertook to impress the “reading public” that American statesmen are “ardent patriots, eager to sacrifice their own interests for those of the people.” This called for loud laughter. “Did I hear someone laugh? asks the broadcaster. ‘It was probably the American reading public having a laugh, and can you blame them? Can you imagine a couple of those ar--dent patroits having a private eonfab in some government office in Washington?”

” ” 8 . “THE LISTENER was transported to the office of one Charlie Sumner, a fictitious government official, who is told “that one vn * J. P. is shown in and cigars lighted. J. P. says he heard the Air Force was to be expanded. Replies Charlie: “Ah, your firm wants a few orders for planes.” “Sure thing, Charlie.” “Well, what's stopping you?” “How much, Charlie?” “Five per cent as You've done that before.”

There’s more conversation, and Charlie tells J. P. jhe can take it or leave it. J. P. yields.

“It's highway robbery just the

same,” he repeats. “How’ll you have it?” “Why, cash of course.” (Noise

of handling paper bills.)

“Five, ten, fifteen, twenty, Thanks, J. P. Have a drink?” ela.

THE BROADCASTER takes over then and commehts:. “If our listeners doubt the veracity of this scene, we can refer them to the bulky reports

on graft and corruption in wilson's defense mobilization office, in the Reconstruction Finance Corp.

gov ment bodies in the United States. A recent file of any American newspaper will reveal plenty of data confirming this.”
