Mr. Heinsite frowned. “Well if you'd listen to me,” he said, “you wouldn't make leads like you made on this hand - and we'd start beating some of these contracts.” Mr. Muzzy had opened the deuce of dia-"~
Mr. Muzzy monds, Mr. Dale ‘winning with the king. Mr. Dale had then quickly cashed three spades, two hearts and three clubs for game.

Theory’ on Opening Leads
“Muzzy,” continued Mr. Heinsite with an air of great patience, “I know your diamond opening follows the book in that it- was the fourth best from your longest and strongest suit. “You know the rules, but you don't know the exceptions. With such a weak suit and no side entries, you should have tried to hit a long suit in my hand. “Open the unbid major, spades, and then Dale would have had to-play the diamond suit himself. With your ace behind his king, he wouldn't have had a chance for nine tricks.” “A very sound speech, though rather long,” remarked Mr. Dale. “But you do me too little credit, Heinsite. Muzzy could have opened his hat and still I would have made three no trump on this hand.
“On a spade opening 1 would win with dummy’s king and lead a low heart. If you played low, I would duck and
let Muzzy win with the 10. He still couldn't lead diamonds, and I would win any other turn and test the heart suit for a 3-3 break. “I wouldn't get it, but it wouldn't make any difference. I would cash all my spades, then play four rounds of clubs. Muzzy would have to win the fourth club and there he would be, just where he started. = “He would have to lead a diamond because he would be out of all the other suits. Thus I would make my king of diamonds after all.” “Maybe we’d better get on to the next hand,” said Mr. Heinsite.
