George William Wells of San Francisco, described by police as a “rough character” with a San Quentin prison background, was walking along the streets here when atrolman Ernest Leezy asked him where he was going. “I'm looking for the bus depot,” Wells said. “Hop in. I'll give you a ride over,” Mr. Leezy answered. Wells began “acting funny” so Mr. Leezy decided to Sage him to the police station. Urged to Seek Local Aid in Gaming Tax
Internal revenue officials in Indiana were directed today to “solicit” the assistance of local law enforcement agencies in the task .of enforcing their gambling tax stamp drive. . The order was issued by the U. 8. Tax Commissioner's Office in Washington. The Indiana office was also told to make ready copies of stamp issue lists, applications and excise tax returns for examination by local authorities on request, The tax commissioner's order stated that 1556 stamps have been sold throughout the nation and that 4266 applications had been received by’ Nov. 30. There were 1884 incomplete applications for’ which no stamps were. -issued.
