Ben Davis Get Two 1951 Grid Berths
By JIMMIE ANGELOPOLOUS
The Times 1951 All-Coun snugly into the 1951 county
. Decatur Central's county champs, who topped Speed"way by 1.7 rating points, had an 8-1 overall mark and a
pair of fine all-around ends— Harold Holderfield and Rex MecKinney, two of the main reasons gn - for Decatur’s success, They turned up with a rape feat —the two best consistent all - around ends in the county. Speedway, which lost 14 to 13 to Decatur, for its only county loss, placed Quarter b a ¢ k Dave Wilson, a smooth-working signal-caller, and all-around back Dick Stumph, who was second in the county with 76 points off seven TDs and 26 placements. Stumph had kicked the placement that tied Decatur but the Plugs were off-side and a passattempt for the point failed. Stumph missed only four all year. Wilson edged out Don Hager, Ben Davis’ fine pitcher who was The Times quarterback last year. » ” ”
FULLBACK Dave Marksbary topped the county (and city) scorers with 97 points and was a defensive bulwark at tackle. The pudgy, 218-pounder: showed rare cotirage all year as the county tacklers’ No. 1 target for the night—a real compliment to Marksbary’s competitive spirit.
