Violet With Cigaret Habit Is Related

an African violet column, odd bits of information keep coming in that certainly ought not to be suppressed. Such as the story of the African violet that’s got the

cigaret habit, The violet thrives for Mrs. Edith Shea, 217 N. Hamilton Ave., although she’s got the plant on strict rations. She writes, “I give it one<half of a cigaret every third week. Put it in the hole in’'the bottom of the pot, then water it in with warm water,” And "if you must be quite ‘scientific about it, I suppose it's the fact that nicotine is full of plant food, and that insect pests dislike it, that's the explanation. ~ n " HERE'S ANOTHER tail and I do mean TAIL, no less than a tip to African violet fans from The Tintes managing editor, Don Robinson. When the Robinsons moved recently to Indianapolis from Washington, naturally the Robinson violet (a single violet then) came along with other valuables in the car. It traveled in a supposedly safe spot— the wastebasket. But Cornwallis, the dog, also came in the car. At regular intervals, Corny fell, sat, or rolled onto the poor violet. For it no sooner arrived in Indianapolis than it began to thrive. And now Mrs. R. has had to
