2M ountain of Presents Awaits Newlyweds

Continued From Page 19 the party. I had just seen Mrs. Woollen in New York at the theater. i : She had had tea with a number of former Hoosiers, including Mrs. Hewitt dowland and George George. She told me that she and Mrs. Woollen were planning to spend the week-end in the country with Ceci and Artruro Grassi. I was fortunate enough to go to the English Speaking Union dinner with Mrs. Wendell Willkie and her son, . Philip, who was there to speak at the Women’s National Republican “Club. It was held in the ballroom at the

Waldorf Astoria and was most impressive. ”» ” n ” » ~

THE FIRST and second dais of tables for the speakers and most distinguished guests were in fronk of enormous flags of the two countries. Proceedings opened with the guests being piped in with much ceremony, the playing of both national anthems and toasts to the President and the King.

Lewis Douglas, introduced by William Griffin who is president of the English Speaking Union, complained slightly of the tyranny of contraptions, meaning the microphones, and then proceeded to preside with great skill : Paul Hoffman and Lord Alexander, Governor General of Canada, made the principal addresses. One of the few light touches was Lord Alexander's careful explanation that he was neither governor nor general.

The audience was filled with celebrities.
