U. S. Tests New Atomic Artillery

WABHINGTON, Dec. 7 (UP)—| Gen. J. Lawton Collins, Army Chief of Staff; said last night the United States has developed and tested an atemic artillery weapon which “will greatly enhance our power of defense.” Interviewed on the Mutual | Broadcasting System’s radio program “Reporter's Roundup,” Gen. Collins also said he is still con- | fident an armistice will be signed with the Communists in Korea, | although he refused to estimate] when, If the armistice talks should | collapse, he said, “it would call for a complete re-evaluation” of | U. 8. strategy in the “limited war.” He added, in reply to a question, that this would include a review of present -restrictions on air attacks against enemy bases! in Manchuria. | In his brief discussion of atomic artillery, Gen. Collins did not] make clear whether he meant that the United’ States has perfected both atomic-warhead artillery shells and a battlefield gun big| enought to fire them.
