Here's a Case
T'S EASY enough to signal when you have one or more of the top cards in a
suit your partner has led. Sometimes, however, it is desirable to signal for continuation
of a suit when you * ve only sm cards. Such a situa-
tion arose in today’s hand. Of course Mr. Muzzy's club overcall was atrocious, but at least it told Mr. Heinsite that Miss Brash could not possibly hold more than Mr. Dale one club. Mr. Muzzy opened the king of clubs, the trey went on from dummy and Mr. Hiensite played the deuce. This discouraging card made Mr. Muzzy pause even though Miss Brash had dropped the queen. 5 u 2 AFTER SOME thought he shifted to his lone heart with the idea that he might trump a ‘heart return. In any case, Miss Brash won the heart, took three top spades, then led to the ace of diamonds and returned a diamond. Mr. Heinsite t took the second dia-

mond and fired a club. But it was too late. Miss Brash ruffed and just led diamonds until Mr. Muzzy took his good jack of spades. After that the rest of her hand was good.
” ” = “JUST CONTINUE clubs at trick two and she hasn't got a chance, Muzzy,” said Mr. Heinsite hastily. “You've told me a thousand times,” complained Mr: Muzzy bitterly, “that when you play a deuce, you don’t want a suit continued.” It's true that continued club leads by the defenders would have shortened Miss Brash’s trump - holding to the point where she lost control of the hand. But I ‘think the blame lies Heinsite. He, too,
easily that Miss Brash’'s club was a singleton. From the looks of the dummy and his own hand he knew that a shift to any other suit was not particularly desirable. Therefore, even though he held no high club honor, he should have encouraged the continuation of the suit by playing the seven spot.

How to Remove Berry Stains
Stains from berries, such as in jellies and jams, come out if boiling water is poured through them from a height of several feet. Stretch the fabric taut over a pot or bowl befére you begin pouring. As a final step, launder in plenty of warm soapsuds
and rinse. Use a light bleach on stubborn stains, if necessary.
